Who is Bikesnob NYC?
Just who is this Bikesnob NYC person? Does anyone know? He (or she) is supposed to be anonymous but I'm sure most people have wondered who exactly this person is. What does he/she look like? What is his/her day job? Does he/she have a job? Why exactly is this person so entertaining to so many fans on the internet?
I have to admit, I enjoy the occasional Bikesnob NYC (BSNYC from now on) post and have even made comments to a few of the posts (though I'm pretty sure no one reads them). Because I'm pretty new to the cycling blog world and have only recently made the rounds to all of the blogs including BSNYC, I still do not fully understanding what BSNYC, the website, is all about. I'm perplexed by the ubiquitous first few comments which include such single words like "Podium", "2" or some other, what seems like, random words. Of course, I understand they are all trying to be the first "commenter" of the post, but why? And why be anonymous? It's just turbid. But regardless, I do enjoy the posts and it is one of the sites I visit on a regular basis.
Now, with that said, I thought it would be cool to poke fun at the supposed anonymity of BSNYC. Apparently, we were both at the Harlem Crits a few weeks ago and after looking at some of BSNYC's photo's I realized he was within my line of site as I was taking photos. So could I have possibly caught BSNYC on camera? I, of course, don't know the answer but maybe someone else might be able to offer some insight. Follow me to my exhibits...
Follow up:
Exhibit #1: The site plan

This diagram shows my location and the supposed location of BSNYC and our camera angles. I gathered BSNYC's location from a few of his camera shots (assuming he took them) that you'll see below as well as from my memory of the race course.
Exhibit #2, 3 and 4: BSNYC's camera shots

This photo is of the jumbotron located at the northwest corner of the course at the intersection of 124th and Mt. Morris Park West. Yes, there were other screens but none had this background so I'm fairly certain of this location.

I believe this photo was taken at the corner of 123rd and Mt. Morris Park West looking west as the riders turned the corner where the jumbotron was in the previous picture.

This shot is from the same location as the shot above but during the messenger race earlier in the day.
The last 3 photos have helped me establish the potential location of BSNYC during those shots. If any one else is more familiar with this area and think I'm wrong, please don't let me know. You'll ruin the fun of this post and I will probably delete your comment. Maybe.![]()
Now I will establish my location through my own photo's as well as try to identify who BSNYC is. But I need your help! I can't do this alone.
Exhibit #5: STL's camera shots

This is a zoomed out shot of the northwest corner of the course. Here, you begin to see the same jumbotron from BSNYC's photo, the white TV production stands in the far left as well as our first glimpse of what could be BSNYC.
Exhibit #6: A closer look

I'm in the same location but my camera is now more zoomed in on the action. We now get a better view of the fans across the way. Where are you, BSNYC???
Exhibit #7: More options

With this shot, I've started to notice a guy in red with a rather nice looking SLR camera. I am assuming BSNYC shoots with a SLR because the photos grabbed from his/her website (I hope you haven't copyrighted them) are set at a pretty high 300dpi. Most point and shoot digital camera's don't go that high in resolution. There's also a nice looking female...Could that be you, BSNYC?
Exhibit #8: The guy in red

Exhibit #9: The revealing

Finally, BSNYC is revealed. His real name is Michael Ball. Just kidding, I think.![]()

The EXIF data on the JPEGs I've looked at from his site says BSNYC uses an Olympus u850SW,S850SW point and shoot camera, not an SLR.
...& if i'm supposed to rank your work & mine, well damn, we both get 5 gold stars...
Bikesnobnyc, now we all can track you all over the world. Resistance is futile!
He'll deny his identity of course, but with a few hours of torture he's sure to break.
